Using IP Standards to Speed Path to Executable Specifications

June 23, 2009 -- This article outlines the benefits of formalizing IP metadata to facilitate IP-centric design reuse and automation – moving from document-based manual flows to automated executable specifications. The standardization and formulization of IP metadata may seem daunting, one of the main problems being the migration of legacy and informal data formats into a standardized format.

Using IP-XACT as a formal data interchange mechanism, it is possible to migrate from a wide range of legacy data formats and enable an automated IP flow that leverages emerging design, verification and software flows. A case study is presented that shows an end-to-end flow from informal metadata to fully automated SystemVerilog (OVM and VMM) generation.
